The fog.
How he hated it. The way it smelled, the way it tasted when he opened his mouth, the way it settled and swirled around him as he rested in his new "homeland". However, the thing he hated most about it . . . was the way it brought all the terrible memories of his past rushing back.
Reme sighed, closing his eyes. It was nearing dawn. Soon, the sun would come to banish the mist that haunted his nightmares. Soon wasn't soon enough for the oddly-colored male. Until then, there wasn't a place he could hide that would keep him safe from the memories . . . his bed of dried sweet herbs in the forest . . . the frantic days of searching and terror . . . Lorakey . . .
He sighed again. What a terrible day it was starting out to be. He hoped that none of his tormentors, the ones who taunted the cloth strip he wore or his strange pelt, his new "allies" would be showing up shortly. He didn't want them to figure out why it was he was sighing so heavily. They would NEVER let him live it down.

Golden pelt was wet from the water of the polluted river, blue eyes narrowed as an annoyed growl left the warrior male. So intent on the waters surface, he didn't notice Tei behind him until she almost litterally pushed him in. Hpwever, the surprise had been enough and Cloud had fallen in himself. Now dripping wet and smelling horribly like dead fish, the dark gray marked male padded on through the fog. How he hated this time of day in general. When everyone would be getting up and his alone time ruined.
Sighing, Cloud continued walking, head down and eyes closed until he nearly tripped over something on the ground. It was too big to be some dead animal carcass, not to mention didnt smell as bad. And it was too furry to be a bush or shrub. Managing to get his footing before he tumlbed down into the dirt of the wasteland, Cloud looked behind him, lsightly surprised to see the wolf that was the advisor.
He muttered a quick appology, sitting down as he did so. What was this wolf's name again? Started with an "R"? Cloud gave up on trying to figure out the name he hadrarely heard being spoken by the wolves on the pack and instead actually looked at the wolf. He looked depressed, or sad. Or both. "You okay?" the warrior asked, shifting to he was facing the male, tail out behind him and an almost bored expression on his face.

It had been surprising to be tripped over by a strange-smelling wolf when he thought himself one of the few to be up, but Reme did not mind terribly. He looked at the wolf, Cloud, he recalled, as he muttered an apology. Reme didn't particularly care since it had been an accident. He nodded. After all, due to his fur, he probably blended in with the ground well.
It was possibly even more surprising when the wolf seemed to care about his well being with the asking of that simple question.
"No," he said simply, staring up. "I am not 'okay'. This fog is making me too emotional, bringing back all the memories of my dearest Lorakey." He stopped talking. If the warrior wanted to know more, he would ask, and Reme would not deny him the truth. Today he didn't have the strength to lie.

"Lorakey?"[/b[ Cloud echoed, blinking at the wolf as he lowered himself into a sitting position. "Do you wish to speak about it?" Not much a talker, the warrior was always open to let others talk to their hearts content if it would help them. All expect the siblings that called him Sky-boy.

"Unfortunately," Reme sighed, looking towards the heavens that were shielded from him by that infernal fog. What he wouldn't have given to be up there with the rest of them.
"Lorakey was my mate." He felt it unnecessary to add the love of his otherwise meaningless existance. "Days like these, with so much tragic moisture in the air, always make me remember how it was I lost the four people who mattered most." He never would have added that he loved them with a passion that most would never be able to compare with; that would have been too much, and he didn't need more disrespect than was generated by the cloth strip he wore. Sure, he was sentimental, but he kept that to himself.
"You see, it was on a day like this that I lost everything I had." He waited for the other wolf to show curiosity. Most took that to be where the story ended, mostly because he was usually glaring daggers by that point, but no. Not today.

Usually uninterested in the life of the others of the pack, Cloud couldn't help but get even a tiny bit interested in the advisor's story. He couldn't remember much of his own, having to fill in the blanks by himself, but to actually have to remember something tragic that happened to you would be pretty uncomfortable.
Blue eyes remained on the other male before turning towards the skies. "If you wish, continue. Nothing you say about the past can change who you are now. It's all just memories."

"Memories," Reme started slowly, as if the right words were running away from him, "are more dangerous than you seem to give them credit for. They can inspire madness, they can cause death, they can go so far as to rip your mind to pieces. Memories also can make you feel joy when all is dreadful, give you warmth, give you hope, give you a way to keep track of what you intend to do."
For another moment, Reme paused. Since when was he that deep? He mentally shrugged it off.
"Would you mind telling me, if possible, if you remember anything so powerfully that it can stop you in your tracks?"

Yes. He shouldn't speak of memories so openly since he had none of his own. Every day this male had to deal with the reminder that all he loved was gone. And him? He barely could remember past when he was taken into the pack. And to meet up with that Chaos Rheins spy that insists that he was his brother was only adding to the confusion. Cloud closed his eyes, a small smirk on his maw.
"Now there's something I wouldn't mind having. Of all the things not to have, mine is memories. I have to recollation of my past besides joining the Inferno Fate. I have no family. I only have my duty as a warrior to this pack." Leaving out the mention of his so-called brother seemed good. He didn't need anyone spying on him to see where his loyalties lyed because of some lie some wolf was telling him.

"That, I think, is a wise wish," Reme sighed, staring down at the ground and watching a small insect busying itself with a small fragment of something else small.
"I had three pups with Lorakey. Their names were, in order of birth, Marta, Terra, and Jube. We had an easy life, free from troubles, save for one incident when my children were almost grown. There were some wolves passing by who sought trouble but they left.
"A few days later, I was walking the borders of our small patch of land, when I noticed a thick and unusual fog was settling upon the earth. The air was so full of moisture you couldn't really see much. I started back to my camp . . . but . . . when I arrived they were . . . all . . ."
Reme knew the words and all their synonyms so well already, but they didn't seem willing to come out. Dead. Deceased, perished, stricken to the ground, with the stars now. He hoped the other wolf would understand his silence. Though Reme's voice had not changed in tone, the hesitation should have been clear.
